Broadband Internet
What is PDMNet’s Broadband High-speed Wireless
Internet?
Simply put, we use Ultra High-Speed microwave
radios (NOT satellite) to connect your computer(s) to PDMNet’s
Fiber-Optic Connection to the Internet, the only one of its kind
in the
area. This system has been in place serving area businesses
for 9 years and in the last 5 years has become available
to residential areas as well.
Please contact us at sales@pdmnet.net or
(772) 564-6800 for more information.
How does this compare other Internet Services such
as traditional Dialup Modems service, DSL, and Cable Modem?
PDMNet’s service is the most reliable and mature solution
of the all the connection options and is available in a much
wider area throughout Indian River County, and recently St.
Lucie and Martin Counties.
Speed wise, we exceed the peak speeds
of all these services and our standard offering is much as
200 times the speed of Dialup. Our system can upload to the
Internet almost 4 times the speed of traditional DSL and Cable Modem services
as those systems are very weighted on the Download Side of
things. So, sending pictures, files, or connecting to others
on the Internet can be as much as 4 times faster than DSL or
Cable.
And, lastly, PDMNet is a complete computer/network company,
so we are giving you more than just a “wire” to
the Internet, so to speak. This is a high-end, mission critical
Business-grade solution that has been downscaled to support
both small businesses and residential customers. Our business
rates are included below as well. What is the cost?
PDMNet offers 2 different plans for residential and
2 different plans for business. PDMNet can provide custom quotes
for your
business depending on all your needs. The current residential

How does it work exactly?
PDMNet installs a very small (11.5” x 3.75”),
lightweight (0.6 lbs) radio/antenna on your residence. It can
be mounted on an eve or rooftop, depending on signal strength
and LOS (Line Of Sight) to our towers. If we mount or your
roof (of any type), we completely seal the penetration and
guarantee our workmanship. The antenna is very attractive,
and hardly noticeable compared to DSS style satellite dishes.
We run a standard Cat5 network cable from our radio/antenna
outside the home to a small router (protects your from the
Internet and allows you to connect multiple computers) inside
your home. We then run a wire from the router to an Ethernet
(network) connection on your computer, and 10 minutes later
you are surfing the web in the most efficient method available!!
If you have laptops, we have wireless routers or access points
are available as upgrades. If you have desktop computers scattered
throughout the house, you can use Ethernet Over Power (EOP)
devices to "network" your PC’s using the Electrical
Lines in your home. PDMNet can work with you to find the best
method for you to use and can perform all the installation
work required based on your needs to ensure you get the fullest
use out of the system.
OK, so its fast and visually not objectionable. What makes
it more reliable than the others?
Because PDMNet does
not use phone lines or cable lines to make its connection to
your home, our service is not impaired
by weather or noisy line conditions that can sometimes impair "copper
based" solutions.
To compare it to DSL or Cable, think
of this scenario: If you ever have picked up the phone and
heard a little static, say after a rainstorm, you can bet your
DSL would not be working! If you ever get less then perfect
video quality on your cable TV, you can bet your Internet connection
would be suffering as well. PDMNet uses very short-range microwave
connections not affected by rain at all.
We are NOT satellite
that uses connection points 22,000 miles away. Most of our
towers are within two miles of our customers. We have 19 different
access locations/towers across three counties to make our network
the strongest available for our customers. Again, PDMNet began
designing our network infrastructure almost 5 years ago, and
we have redundancy built in on our major "backhauls" to
our towers, including high-capacity radios and fiber optics.
Our service is like the “clear dial tone” that
we all take for granted these days.
What about my business. How does your service fit into my
office network?
PDMNet started its entire Broadband
network in 1998, before the term "broadband" was
even being used. Our focus as a company has always been to
provide progressive business
solutions that gave area businesses a jump on the competition.
Over the past few years, we have been able to reduce our costs
on the equipment required to make this extremely affordable
to even the smallest area businesses.
Our service goes "in front" of your network. By
using a router between your network and ours, you are provided
with a "firewall" protection system, that keeps the
prying eyes of Internet hackers from having direct access to
your computers. You have "fake" addresses for each
PC or Mac behind the firewall, and a real, static IP address
at the front of the router.
This static IP is almost always
a monthly add on fee with other companies, such as the DSL
or cable companies, but is standard with every customer connection
that PDMNet provides. This allows for you to selectively remotely
control or access a computer(s) within your network that you
NEED to get to. PDMNet can configure your Firewall to allow
only certain types of Internet traffic to reach a given PC.
This is useful for accessing a PC for remote control, such
as PC Anywhere, Timbuktu, or Terminal Services. ONLY those
agreed on "ports" that are absolutely needed to be
open, are opened. If it sounds a little technical, don't worry.
IF you have the need arise for such features to be turned on,
PDMNet will handle all those details for you. OK. It's secure and I like the router protection concept.
What else sets you apart from your competitors, besides the
speed advantage you have?
PDMNet is first and foremost
a network company. What this means is that we are not just "handing you a wire" to
the Internet and saying here you go. PDMNet IS a network data
company so we understand all that is required to "complete
the picture".
On installation, we help you get each PC
configured. There is no software to install, so we make it
very easy to understand how the PC connects. It takes only
about 5 minutes per PC to setup for PDMNet, but we make sure
that it is done properly. From a features standpoint, we offer these features as valuable
options to your business.
Domain Hosting: only $ 10 a month for basic web and or email
hosting at you own domain.
What's a domain? its that www thing all the websites use,
such as cnn.com, ebay.com, etc. You can have your own .com
(your own domain) for use for email, which adds a professional
flair to your business email correspondence.
For example, it
looks a lot more professional to have an email coming from
dan@danstrucking.com then dantruck@flbb.net. With your own
domain, you can have up to 50 different email addresses @yourdomain.com,
and you have FULL control over adding and deleting your own
addresses, passwords, forwards, etc.
The $ 10 a month also
covers basic website hosting, which serves most costumers
just fine. If you have ecommerce needs, database needs, etc.,
we
evaluate each site one at a time to determine the cost.
For the $ 10 a month, PDMNet will do email hosting, web hosting
or both, depending on your need. Also, with your own domain we have another option for you
called InocuClean. Using the award winning Postini engine,
PDMNet's InocuClean system removes a great portion (upto 95%)
of unwanted Spam Email from your inbox. It also provides a
level of protection against viruses as well. InocuClean identifies
the 40% to 50% of all Spam that is 100% confirmable as Spam,
and deletes this email before you ever see it.
InocuClean then
takes the remaining email that it suspects is Spam, based
on various intelligence rules and based on the aggressiveness
levels that you set, and it puts this in a quarantine area.
InnocuClean also offers a high level of Virus protection
before
it even passed your network router. This is NOT a replacement
for judicious use of Anti-virus software on each PC, but
it is another level of protection for you.
